In Shia PG College under NCC’s ‘Naya Savera’ Held Seminar on ‘Drug-Free India’

A seminar focusing on “Drug-Free India” was organized at Shia PG College on Wednesday morning under the ‘Naya Savera’ initiative by the NCC Naval Wing, under the supervision of Sub-Lieutenant Dr. S. Nuzhat Hussain. The event saw active participation from students, faculty members, and NCC cadets, and aimed to raise awareness on the physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug addiction. Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, emphasized that drug addiction not only destroys an individual’s life but also deeply impacts families and society. “Addiction leads to the collapse of generations. A civilized society cannot afford to tolerate such habits. With the help of rehabilitation centers, we must bring addicts back into the mainstream and help them regain the will to live,” he stated. Speaking on the medical implications, research scholar Mr. Ashutosh Gautam highlighted how substance abuse causes liver damage, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory issues, and nervous system complications. He further linked drug use to severe mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis. “Addiction impairs judgment and increases the likelihood of accidents and risky behavior,” he noted. Sub-Lieutenant Dr. S. Nuzhat Hussain, in her address, underlined the broader social impact of addiction. “Drug dependence not only deteriorates one’s personal health but also disrupts family dynamics and social relationships. Irritability, aggression, and emotional distance often lead to a toxic environment,” she remarked, urging early intervention and awareness.
